Order guide

I often get asked ‘Skye, how do you commission a fursuit?’ Well, here’s a guide on how to do just that from when you first contact me, to when you receive your suit!

Before you order…

Before you order your suit, there’s a few things you need, and a few things you have to think about too.

  • To make your character, I need a 2 view minimum reference sheet, 3 views is ideal for fursuit creation! If your design isn’t clear, I may have to take artistic liberties on the design to make sure you receive it on time! If you don’t have reference art of your character, please commission a furry artist to do it for you, or fill in one of the many free ref linearts that the community provides. You can find them via google, but make sure they’re free to use!

  • Whilst we have created all kinds of things as a community over the years, there are still some things I, and many other makers simply cannot do. For example, a suit with electronics that’s water resistant and able to be machine washed. A suit with wires exposed so you can see through the center of the belly. Hyper detailed markings that you want to do back flips in and be super durable, so please make sure your idea is realistic! If you’re unsure, feel free to contact me and ask!

  • We all have our specialties as artists and some things we do better than other things. So here’s the things I currently do not offer:

    • Protogens/LED mask style suits

    • Realistic and semi-realistic suits

    • Stilt suits

    • Quadsuits

    • Moving Jaws

    • Microcontroller controlled electronic parts

    • Intense airbrushing

  • Whilst I am able to make my heads to suit people who wear glasses, I cannot stop them from fogging up. Fogging depends on many many factors including your temperature, humidity, and the temperature outside of your suit too. If you’re able, wear contacts! It fixes the fogging issue entirely.

  • Fursuiting is a hot, and sweaty hobby. There’s really no 2 ways about it, as you suit more your body will build up resistance to the heat over time. However if you take any medications, or suffer from any medical conditions that impede your body’s ability to regulate temperature, or produce sweat, please fursuit with care! Maybe try borrowing a suit for a day to see how your body reacts to the heat and humidity before purchasing the real deal for yourself! You know your body and will know what works, just don’t push yourself!

Getting a slot

When I open for a new customer, or batch of customers, I will announce it on my social media, and to my mailing list! However slots will always be advertised on Patreon first, if you’d like first dibs on new slots, be sure to join!
My commissions are not first come first served both on Patreon and publicly, and I will choose which projects to take on based on how well I think the design will suit my style, if I’ve made that species before, how unique the design is, etc etc.
If I choose your character, I will reply to you by email to let you know you were successful! Slots will usually remain open for 3 days to a week, depending on the slots available.

Payment

Once you’ve been contacted and successful in your slot application, I will need a PayPal email address to send your invoices to. The first invoice will be for your 30% non-refundable deposit, this will be required upfront to secure your spot in the queue. The second invoice will be for the remaining 70%, this invoice will have partial payment turned on, you can revisit this invoice over time to make payments as you wait for your suit to be completed, in line with a discussed payment plan. Your suit won’t be shipped until full payment is received.
I offer payment plans up to 6 months, in weekly, fortnightly or monthly installments.

To check my refund policy, please read my TOS!

Queue and contact

Once you’ve paid your 30% deposit, I will work with you to select your furs from one or multiple of my high quality suppliers, and you will receive a link to join our commissioners telegram chat. Telegram is my main form of contact, and I prefer to be contacted there for faster responses! In that chat, and sent to you via email will be a link to my trello where you can keep an eye on your progress in queue in real time! Works in progress shots of other suits, as well as your own are posted in the group chat, however some WIPS may be sent to you via DM for specific feedback!

Now begins the waiting game!

Measurements and sizing

When it gets close to your spot in line I may ask you for certain measurements and things to assist me in sizing your suit correctly!

Head size

This is a measurement around where your hat line is! If you wear glasses, please take an additional measurement around where your glasses sit, and include them in that measurement!

Armsleeves

If you have armsleeves, I will need a measurement from your shoulder to your wrist, around your wrist, around your elbow and around your shoulder and armpit!

Shoe size

To create your feetpaws to the right size, I will need your shoe size! Please specify which country and whether it’s male or female sizing!

Note: If you are a large human (in height) and have larger than normal hand sizes or long legs, please let me know so I can make adjustments!

DTD creation and shipping

What is a DTD?

A duct tape dummy is essentially a hollow form of your exact body shape, made of duct tape! I require them for all fullsuit commissions (Not heads or partials) Its made by wearing a painters suit and getting your friends to cover you in tape, just as much fun as it sounds! Once its done you can fold it flat and send it to me so I can use it to make your bodysuit!

Getting it to me

Once your dtd is done, fold it flat and put it in a box or mailer, I will provide you the address to send it to me! It may take a week or two to arrive so get tracking if you’d like to keep an eye on it!
Note: DTD’s are mostly destroyed during creation, if you want it back please specify!

Watch the video below to learn how to make a DTD!

Work in progress shots and creation!

You will be contacted once work has begun on your suit! WIPs are sent regularly via DM or the commissioners telegram chat! However you are free to request WIP shots whenever you like! (Though max 1-2 per workday please!)
Every time you get sent a WIP shot, if you would like something changed, please don’t be afraid to speak up! I want you to absolutely adore what I make you, and I’d rather change things than have you be unhappy!
However, I will add that changes have to be within reason, its reasonable for me to ask to make your muzzle shape more rounded for example, however its unreasonable to ask for a spot to be moved precisely 2mm to the left.
If you receive a WIP with approval requested, please be sure to respond in a timely manner!

Final steps!

Finishing touches…

All fursuits (when time allows) get photoshoots done for my gallery (please ask for full res files if you want them!), they also receive a good brush out, a steam and razor treatment to set the fur fibers a bit, and you will also recieve an information pack with a care guide specific to your fursuit! As well as a custom QR code, a Skye enamel pin, swatch sheet and more!

Packing and shipping!

All shipping is covered by the commissioner, you will be given a rough price estimate and sent an invoice upon completion of your suit, the suit will not be sent until payment has been received. Price includes tracking, signature on delivery and insurance for material costs.
Your suit is packed in a heavy duty cardboard box, inside a plastic bag to ensure no water damage occurs from mishandling during shipping. I copy paste your address that you send me onto the shipping label, so be sure its accurate!!

Once sent, you will receive a photo of the receipt, and will be refunded any excess shipping costs. Commissioner is responsible for any and all customs fees upon arrival in destination country.

Receiving your suit!

Congratulations! You’ve now got your new suit!

Open them up, and give them a good brush out! If you want to film an unboxing video please do! Tag me if you do! I love watching them! (Even though they’re mildly terrifying for fursuit makers to watch!)

Your suit comes with 2 months warranty, and expires on the date shown on your warranty certificate in your box! If anything goes wrong due to materials or my craftsmanship, I will repair at no expense to you!
Outside of warranty, I can still do repairs and even refurbishments later down the line! Contact me any time for prices!

If you post any photos or updates on your suit, be sure to tag me! @skyehighstudios pretty much anywhere!

Thank you so much for commissioning me! <3
